A Kids' Dentist That Takes OHP in Salem, Oregon

The coverage most Salem parents don't know they have
Here's a conversation we have weekly at the front desk: a parent asks what a kids' checkup costs, we ask if the child has OHP, and the parent says yes, but didn't realize that meant dental. It does. If your child is enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan, dental coverage comes with it automatically through your CCO (coordinated care organization) — in Salem that's usually PacificSource Community Solutions or Trillium. There's no separate dental sign-up, no extra premium, no card you forgot to order. If your kid has OHP, your kid has dental.
What OHP covers for kids (more than it covers for you)
Children's dental benefits under OHP are broader than adults' — Oregon prioritizes kids' coverage on purpose. At our office, that means all of this at $0 out of pocket:

Adults' OHP coverage is solid too — our main OHP page covers it, but for kids, the plan is genuinely excellent.
No waiting list. No second tier. Same doctors.
Some offices quietly cap OHP patients or route them to a separate schedule. We don't. Kids on OHP book from the same calendar as every patient — after-school times, Saturday mornings, and same-day slots when a toothache won't wait. Your child sees Dr. Elena Vasquez or Dr. Michael Tran, the same dentists who see every family here, for the same appointment length. That's a founding principle of this practice, and it extends to pricing philosophy across the board: for anything insurance doesn't touch, our fees run about 20% below the typical Salem office.
Finding your child's member ID (it's easier than you think)
Three places to look: the Oregon Health ID card mailed when coverage started (a plain paper card — easy to lose, totally replaceable); your CCO's member card or app, which lists each covered child; or any letter from the Oregon Health Authority, which prints the member ID near your child's name. First visit free under 3 — with or without insurance
One thing OHP status never changes: first visits for kids under age 3 are free here, period. No insurance required, nothing to verify first. If the paperwork is in flux — coverage pending, CCO switch mid-year, card lost in a move — bring your toddler anyway. The age-one first visit is fifteen gentle minutes that set up years of easy checkups, and we'd rather sort out insurance later than have a first checkup wait on an envelope from the state. Kids pick up on their parents' comfort level instantly, so a visit where mom or dad can ask anything in their own language makes for a calmer kid too.
